Imagine yourself riding the chairlift up to the top of Whitefish Mountain Resort. This is the first day of your skiing vacation and it snowed a fresh 12 inches of powder last night. The sky is clear and it is COLD. Temperatures are near zero degrees and it’s cold and dry enough to make you cough when you take a deep breath. You’ve spent thousands of dollars on travel, lift passes and the best equipment just to be there. You’re excited, your body is warm and protected, but your lips and face are stinging from the bitter cold wind on the chair ride. No problem right? You’ll just cover your face with the standard fleece facemask skiers have used for years and everything will be fine. WRONG. The first thing you notice is that your goggles fog and that you can’t breathe. You can’t play if you can’t see or breathe! Next, you notice an uncomfortable buildup of moisture on the fleece from your exhaled breath and it starts to get cold. You don’t want to take the fleece mask off because it too cold and you don’t wear it because you can’t ski with it. What do you? You need a ColdAvenger!
We formed Talus Outdoor Technologies, LLC in 2007 because the world needed a better cold weather face mask. After 2 years of R&D we we created the ColdAvenger: a unique mask which has raised the bar in cold weather protection. Our product is simple, but very effective. A patented ventilator piece protects the facial skin while preventing fogging, managing moisture, and allowing the user to breathe naturally through both the mouth and nose! But, it’s what you don’t see that is truly amazing: our ventilator passively creates a micro-climate in front of your face that warms and humidifies each breath. The warming and humidification of inhaled air has been shown by the American College of Sports Medicine as a countermeasure to damaging cold air. This is a very important health benefit and why it has become a necessary piece of gear for many cold weather athletes and asthmatics around the world.
